JSON ↔ YAML Converter
Convert JSON to YAML and back, with YAML 1.1 or 1.2 rules, merge keys expanded and anything JSON can’t hold listed.
About this tool
Convert JSON to YAML for config files, or YAML back to JSON, in either YAML 1.2 or the older YAML 1.1 that many tools still read. Numbers keep their exact digits in both directions.
Anchors, aliases and merge keys (<<) are expanded. Anything JSON can’t represent is listed with its line: comments, custom tags like !Ref, dates in YAML 1.1, keys that aren’t text, and multiple documents, which become an array.
Strings that a YAML reader would mistake for something else, like "yes", "123" or "null", are quoted automatically so they stay strings.
What is the “Norway problem”?
In YAML 1.1, unquoted NO, no, yes, on and off mean true or false, so a list of country codes containing NO turns Norway into false. YAML 1.2 fixed this; choose 1.1 only when your tool needs it.
