About this tool
Find out exactly what changed between two versions of a PDF. Every page is compared two ways: the words, shown with additions and deletions marked inline, and the pictures, shown side by side with a third image that paints every difference in red. Pages that differ are flagged in a strip so you can jump straight to them.
This catches changes a text comparison alone would miss, such as a swapped logo, a moved figure or a signature that was added, and changes a picture comparison alone would not explain, such as a reworded clause. The sensitivity slider decides how small a visual difference counts.
Both files are read in your browser and neither is uploaded, which matters for contracts and drafts. Pages that exist in only one file are called out. Scanned pages have no text to compare, so only the picture comparison applies to them.
How do I compare two PDF files for differences?
Drop the original first and the changed version second. Pages that differ are flagged; click one to see both pages, a red difference overlay and the changed words.
Can it compare scanned documents?
The picture comparison works on scans, marking what looks different. Word comparison needs real text, so run OCR PDF on the scans first if you want that as well.
Why does it say pages differ when the text is the same?
The pictures differ, for example in layout, an image or a font. Lower the sensitivity if tiny rendering differences are being flagged.
Are my documents uploaded for comparison?
No. Both files are read and compared inside your browser.
