About this tool

See what is inside a PDF without opening it in an editor: its version, page count and page sizes, who made it and with what, whether it is encrypted and what the permissions allow, which fonts it uses and whether they are embedded, how many pictures, form fields, bookmarks, comments and attachments it holds, and whether it contains JavaScript or older saved versions.

A short list of findings flags the things worth a second look, such as scripts, hidden attachments, fonts that are not embedded and earlier versions that could still be recoverable from the file. Copy the whole report to share or keep.

The file is read in your browser and is not uploaded. Inspecting never changes it. If something in the report is a concern, Sanitize PDF removes active and hidden parts, and PDF Metadata clears the details.

How do I see what is inside a PDF?

Open it here. The report shows its details, security, fonts, pictures and structure straight away, and nothing is uploaded.

How can I tell whether a PDF contains JavaScript or attachments?

The Findings list flags them, and the Security and Contents sections show the counts. Use Sanitize PDF to remove them.

What does “font not embedded” mean?

The PDF refers to a font by name instead of carrying it. Other computers that lack the font will substitute another, so the document may look different. Embedding fonts when exporting avoids it.

What are earlier saved versions?

Some programs add changes to the end of a PDF instead of rewriting it, so older content can remain inside the file. Saving a clean copy with Repair PDF or Compress PDF rewrites it without them.
