See how random its bytes are, part by part: text, media, compressed and encrypted data each have their own pattern.
About this tool
Entropy measures how unpredictable a file’s bytes are, from 0 bits per byte for one repeated value to 8 for bytes that look completely random. Plotting it along the file shows its structure: text and tables sit low, while compressed sections, embedded images and encrypted blocks sit near the top.
Alongside the chart are the figures the classic ent tool reports: chi-square against an even spread, the mean byte value and serial correlation, plus a histogram of every byte value. Large files are sampled in evenly spaced windows unless you ask for every byte.
High entropy only says the bytes look random. Compressed and encrypted data both do, as do photos and video, so it’s a clue for investigation, never proof. Download every window’s figure as CSV or the full report as JSON.
