About this tool
Mark up a PDF with a highlighter, rectangles, freehand pen strokes and text notes. Pick a colour, choose a tool, and draw straight onto the page. Switch to the select tool to move or delete a mark, and undo the last one if you slip.
Marks are drawn into the page content, so they look identical in every PDF program and when printed, and they work even where a viewer does not support comments. The trade-off is that they cannot be edited later, so keep your original file if you may want to change them.
Highlights use a multiply blend, so the text underneath stays dark and readable like a real highlighter. Notes use the built-in PDF fonts (Western European languages). Everything happens in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
How do I highlight text in a PDF?
Open the PDF here, choose the highlighter, and drag across the text. The highlight is drawn over the page and the text below stays readable.
Can I add a text note to a PDF?
Yes. Choose the Text tool, click where the note belongs, type it and press Enter. You can move it with the select tool.
Can I edit my marks later?
Not after saving: they become part of the page. Keep the original PDF, and mark up a fresh copy if you need to change them.
Do highlights show up in other PDF viewers?
Yes, because they are drawn into the page itself, not stored as comment objects that some viewers ignore.
