About this tool

Every PDF records details about itself: its title, the author’s name, the program that made it, and when it was created and changed. They often show up in search results and in the file’s properties, and they can reveal more than you meant to share, such as a colleague’s name or an internal tool.

See them here, edit them, or remove them all. Editing also drops the extra XMP metadata block that many programs add, so an old title can’t survive in it and contradict the new one. The pages are not touched.

Everything is done in your browser and the file is not uploaded. Document details are only one place a PDF can hold hidden information; Sanitize PDF covers attachments, scripts and comments, and the Metadata & Privacy tools handle photos.

How do I remove the author name from a PDF?

Open the file here and choose “Remove all”, or clear the Author box in Edit and save. Both remove the name from the document details; removing everything also deletes the XMP block that can repeat it.

How do I change the title of a PDF?

Open it, edit the Title box and choose Save details. The title appears in PDF viewers’ title bars and in search results.

Will this change how the PDF looks?

No. Only the document’s details change. Pages, text, images and fonts stay as they are.

Does removing metadata make a PDF anonymous?

It removes the usual identifying details, but the content can still identify you, such as a name written on a page, and some files keep comments, form data or attachments that name people. Use Sanitize PDF for those.
