About this tool

PDFs can carry more than the pages you see: scripts that run when the file opens, files attached inside it, links that launch programs, comments, and details such as the author and the software that made it. Sanitize PDF shows what a file contains and removes the parts you choose, before you send it to someone else.

The pages themselves are not changed. Text stays text, images stay images and the layout is identical. The result lists exactly what was removed, so you can check it.

Cleaning a file reduces what it can do and what it reveals, but it is not a guarantee of safety, and it does not hide anything that is visible on the page. To remove visible content for good, use Redact PDF. Everything runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded.

How do I remove JavaScript from a PDF?

Open the file here, leave “Scripts” switched on and choose Sanitize. Scripts in the document, in links and in form fields are removed, and the result tells you how many were found.

Does sanitizing change how the PDF looks?

No. Text, images and layout are unchanged. Only hidden or active parts are removed, plus comments and document details if you choose to remove them.

Is a sanitized PDF guaranteed to be safe?

No tool can promise that. Sanitizing removes the common ways a PDF can run code, open programs or carry hidden files, which lowers the risk, but you should still only open files from sources you trust.

Can it remove the author name and software details?

Yes. Switch on “Document details” to clear the title, author, subject, keywords, software names and the XMP block.
