About this tool
Add page numbers to a PDF in a few clicks. Choose the wording (1, Page 1, Page 1 of 10, 1 / 10), put the number in any top or bottom position, and pick Arabic, Roman or lettered numbering. Start from any number, skip a cover page, or number only a range. The preview shows the number on the page you are looking at.
Numbers are written into the page in the font, size and colour you choose, and the page itself is not re-rendered or re-compressed. Pages that were rotated are handled so the number always reads upright.
Text uses the standard PDF fonts, which cover Western European languages. The work is done in your browser and the file is not uploaded. For headers, footers or legal Bates numbering, use Header, Footer & Bates.
How do I add page numbers to a PDF?

Can I skip the cover page or start at a different number?
Yes. Switch on “Skip the first page” and set “Start at”. For a more specific range, type the pages to number, such as 3-20.
Can I use Roman numerals?
Yes. Choose i, ii, iii or I, II, III under Numbering. Lettered a, b, c numbering is available too.
Will the numbers cover my content?
They sit near the edge, 28 points in by default. Check the preview, and raise “From the edge” if a page has content close to the border.
