About this tool

Stamp text or a picture across the pages of a PDF: “CONFIDENTIAL”, “DRAFT”, a company logo or a copyright line. Choose the size, colour, opacity and angle, put it in the centre or a corner, or repeat it across the whole page, and apply it to every page or only a range. A live preview shows where it will land.

The watermark is drawn on top of the page content and saved into the PDF, so it appears the same everywhere and when printed. The pages beneath are not re-rendered, and text stays selectable.

A watermark deters casual copying and marks a document’s status, but it is not security: anyone with a PDF editor can remove it. For protection use Protect PDF. Text uses the built-in PDF fonts, which cover Western European languages; use a picture for other scripts. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?

Open the PDF here, type your text (or choose a logo), adjust the size, opacity and angle, and press Add watermark. The result downloads straight away, and nothing is uploaded.

Can I use my logo as a watermark?

Yes. Switch to “Picture”, choose a PNG or JPEG (PNG keeps transparent backgrounds), and set its width and opacity.

Can someone remove the watermark?

Anyone with a PDF editor can. A watermark states status or ownership; it does not prevent copying. Use Protect PDF to restrict access, or Redact PDF to remove content permanently.

Why do some characters show as question marks?

Text watermarks use the standard PDF fonts, which cover Western European languages. For Chinese, Cyrillic, Arabic or emoji, make an image of the text and use the Picture option.
