About this tool
Turn a logo into a Windows icon with every size you need, from 16 to 256 px. Add your own hand-drawn small sizes and they’re used exactly as drawn, pixel for pixel; the rest are rendered from your largest image or SVG with a sharp resampling filter.
Open an existing .ico or .cur file to see every image inside it, with its size, colour depth and storage format, and download any of them as PNG. A built-in check points out missing sizes, oversized uncompressed bitmaps and other common problems, and can rebuild the file for you.
The magnified view shows small sizes pixel by pixel, so you can judge how crisp your icon will look in Explorer and on the taskbar.
Which sizes should an .ico contain?
For a website favicon, 16, 32 and 48 px are enough. For a Windows app, include 16, 24, 32, 48 and 256 px at least; Windows 11 also uses 20, 30, 36, 40, 60, 64, 72, 80 and 96 px at different display scales.
PNG or bitmap inside the .ico?
PNG is much smaller and works everywhere since Windows Vista. Only turn on Windows XP compatibility if you need to support very old software.
