About this tool
Video Info reads a video file and shows what is inside it: the container, video and audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, duration, rotation and any extra tracks. It is the quick way to find out why a video won’t play somewhere, or what to choose before you convert or compress it.
It also shows what your browser can do with the video. Playing a file isn’t the same as being able to edit it, so each track is checked for whether this device can decode it, and a table lists which codecs it can read and write.
The file is read on your device, only as much as is needed to describe it, and nothing is uploaded. It reads MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files, including ones your browser cannot play.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The file is read in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
What does “can’t decode” mean?
It means this browser can’t read that codec for editing, even if the file plays in a media player. HEVC (H.265) and some audio codecs are the usual cases. Try Chrome or Edge, or convert the file first.
How accurate is the frame rate?
It is measured from the first few hundred frames. A video with a variable frame rate can differ later in the file.
Which formats can it read?
MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. AVI, WMV and FLV files are not supported.
