About this tool

Mute Video removes the audio from a video file without touching the picture. Because the video is copied rather than re-encoded, the result looks exactly like the original and is ready in moments, even for long clips.

It works with MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files, and the result keeps the same format as the original. Everything happens in your browser using your device’s own video tools, so the file is never uploaded anywhere.

Use it before sharing a screen recording with background noise or private conversations, or when you want to add your own soundtrack elsewhere. If a video has several audio tracks, all of them are removed.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The file is read and rewritten inside your browser. Once the page has loaded it works with your internet connection off.

Does muting reduce the quality?

No. The video is copied exactly as it is, with no re-encoding, so there is no quality loss. Only the audio is left out.

Can I get the sound back later?

No, the muted file doesn’t contain the audio at all. Keep your original if you might need it.

Why can’t I mute my video?

The file needs to be a readable MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV with a video track. Formats such as AVI or WMV aren’t supported, and a video with no audio has nothing to remove.

Does it remove other information, like where it was filmed?

No. This tool only removes the audio. Other details stored in the file, such as when it was recorded, are kept.
