About this tool
Resize Video changes a video’s dimensions. Pick a standard resolution such as 1080p or 720p, or type your own size. It also reshapes video for a new aspect ratio: 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for a square post, 4:5 for a portrait feed, or 16:9 for landscape.
When the new shape does not match the video, you choose what happens: crop to fill the frame, or add bars so nothing is cut off. The picture is never stretched, and it is never enlarged unless you pick a custom size, because making a video bigger adds file size without adding detail.
Resizing re-encodes the video in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. The audio is copied untouched whenever the format can hold it.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is resized on your device, in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Does resizing reduce the quality?
Making a video smaller always loses some detail, and the video is encoded again. The tool keeps the bitrate in proportion to the new size so it stays sharp for its size.
How do I make a video vertical for Shorts, Reels or TikTok?
Choose 9:16 under Aspect ratio, then pick Crop to fill (cuts the sides) or Add bars (keeps the whole picture with bars above and below). The result is as large as the picture allows, because the tool does not enlarge video.
Why is a resolution greyed out?
Sizes at or above the video’s own resolution are disabled, because enlarging adds file size without adding detail. Choose Custom size if you really need a bigger frame.
Why can’t it resize my video?
Resizing needs your browser to decode and encode the video. If it cannot decode the codec (some H.264 or HEVC files in certain browsers), try Chrome or Edge on a computer. Video Info shows what your browser supports.
